The Promise

Promise yourself

To never let anyone

take advantage of you

of your kindness

of your situation

of your seemingly desperation

Promise yourself

to stay true to who you are

Your authentic self!

who you are suppose to be

who you are destined to grow into

Promise yourself

to not be afraid to say “Nah I’m good!”

or “I have to go!”

Promise yourself

to arrive for “you”

Something

You are on a beach, alone

The wind with all of its warmth caresses your face

Your feet is soothing in the sand

Every particle has a purpose just for you

You glare out into the waters watching the sunset

The waves afar are dark, robust, and mysterious

But once they reach your feet they reserve a calmness

You can see your reflection

Hanging over your reflection are massive trees with beautifully shaped leaves

You turn around for a more satisfying view

The trees are so tall they excite your interest

You began to walk close to one of the trees which happens to be your favorite color

Something motivates you to begin climbing that tree

Only you know what that something is

The farther up you climb the more still the wind becomes

You get halfway up and look down

The waves have reached the bottom of the tree

You don’t fear, you keep climbing

Something is waiting for you at the top of the tree

Only you know what that something is

By time you reach the top, the sky has darkened

And it seems as if the stars were waiting for your arrival

Along with that something you also knew would be there

The day changed into night

The wind is standing still

The waves have followed your footsteps

Fear has left your being

And that something was well worth the climb

What was it?

Not What It Seemed

The sweetest words

He conveyed to her heart

Surety

He placed in her soul

Hope

He gave to her future

Ease

perpetuated her mind

Convinced

he was it

The dream

a walking breeze

calming all mental

soothing all physical

a feed for the emotional

High display of spiritual

Touching levels of physicality

unpenetrated

Yes!

My brother

You da best!

Well he “was”

the best

sugared illusion

with a cause

thick fog

hiding all flaws

masking his lack of faith

like a protection from SARS

using the good

to fill his horribles

greed

spite

intentions implorable

But damn

the sister said

he was adorable

S.M.H.

brother was the definition

of fake

There she fell

into the deepest

blue lake

to cleanse the pain

her soul could not longer take

But just before

the darkness consumed her conscious

she remembered her purpose

and pleaded for solace
